Location of Incident: Interstate 40 eastbound at Mile Marker 150.

Sheriff Darren Campbell stated: On Tuesday, March 14, 2023, Iredell County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Detectives were conducting surveillance in the area of Taylorsville Highway when they observed a narcotics transaction.
The detectives radioed the information to Deputy G. Wiedenmann of the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office Aggressive Criminal Enforcement (ACE) Team.
Deputy Wiedenmann attempted to conduct a traffic stop on Interstate 40 eastbound as it approached the 150 Mile Marker. The suspect vehicle increased speed and began fleeing from the attempted stop.
Deputy Wiedenmann continued to pursue the vehicle along with Lieutenant C. Stone. The vehicle continued onto Interstate 77 South, where it exited onto Gardner Bagnal Boulevard. The pursuit ended in the back yard of a residence on 9th Street.
The driver of the vehicle, Trevaris Devar Kennedy, fled from the vehicle on foot. Within moments Deputy M. Sharpe observed Kennedy hiding near some railroad tracks, where he was taken into custody without further incident.
A search of Kennedy’s vehicle located 39 grams of Marijuana and a loaded handgun.
Three passengers were inside the vehicle, and all are juveniles. These three juveniles remained in the vehicle when Kennedy fled on foot. One of the juveniles is being charged with Misdemeanor Possession of Marijuana and Misdemeanor Possession of Marijuana Paraphernalia through Juvenile Services.
Trevaris Devar Kennedy was transported to the Iredell County Detention Center, where he was charged with: Felony Flee to Elude Arrest with a Motor Vehicle, Misdemeanor Carry Concealed Gun, Misdemeanor Possession of Marijuana, Misdemeanor Possession of Marijuana Paraphernalia, Three Counts of Misdemeanor Child Abuse, Driving While License Revoked, Careless and Reckless Driving, Failure to Stop for Lights and Sirens, Speeding, and Fail to Stop for Stop Light. Kennedy appeared before Magistrate Callejas who issued a 75,000.00 dollar secured bond on the charges.
